The software provider PTV Group based in Karlsruhe is driving forward its expansion strategy in foreign markets. It has now opened a branch office in the UK offering transport and logistics planning software, real-time optimization solutions and services. Based in Birmingham, the newly established PTV UK Ltd. provides public sector clients and transport service providers with its full range of software solutions.
The PTV Group, whose guiding principle is to plan and optimise everything which moves people goods worldwide, offers its complete product portfolio to strengthen its position in the UK and the Republic of Ireland, both very attractive markets in Europe. The Transport Statistics 2013 presented by the British Department for Transport predicts that traffic volumes will experience a continual long term increase. It is expected that all motor vehicle traffic in 2040 will be 43 per cent higher than in 2010. The greatest growth forecast is in Light Goods Vehicles (LGVs).
CEO Vincent Kobesen emphasises: “Now is the time to establish our own branch office in what is a strategically important market. There is an increasing demand for integrated transportation and logistics applications and no other company has the wealth of experience that PTV has acquired in this field in order to deliver the right solutions for the customers’ specific transportation and logistics needs.”
Business field Traffic
The market environment for the implementation of major transport infrastructure projects is very favourable and there is much that can be done to optimize existing infrastructure. The British government is again increasingly willing to invest: The City of London alone has announced as much as 4 billion pounds of infrastructure investment over the next ten years. A particular focus will be on real-time traffic management applications – predictive traffic forecasting and real-time mitigation measures. Miller Crockart, Managing Director of PTV UK, says: “We know that there are outstanding market opportunities in the UK for offline and real-time planning and optimization software solutions. We hear a lot about “Big Data” and “Smart Cities” these days. At PTV Group we are one of the very few companies in the world that have the scientifically robust analytic software tools to turn that data and concept into meaningful results on the ground for the movement of people or goods.”
Numerous notable enterprises and public organisations in the UK rely upon PTV technology and its traffic and transportation expertise. Customers include well-known consultancies, such as Mouchel, Logica, Mott MacDonald or Atkins as well as public authorities, such as Transport for London, Highway Agency, Centro or GMPTE (Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive).
Business field Logistics
Logistics and telematics service providers have to cope with increasingly complex political and economic requirements. To ensure continued success in this highly competitive market, it is essential to tap the full optimisation potential in terms of transport costs and processes. At the same time political parties call for eco-friendly strategies, such as ‘low emission zones’ and stricter regulations on driving times and rest periods. Professional software can provide valuable process support. Customers report that PTV Group’s product portfolio is indeed a good alternative to solutions offered by competitors, such as Google. This is because PTV provides highly scalable tools complementing transport management systems. They can be used as a cloud solution and secure on-premise application.
The British Royal Automobile Club RAC has chosen PTV software components for its telematics application, for example. But also system integrators, such as Isotrack and Microlise, use these tools to integrate them into transport management systems. As a leading provider of route planning solutions, PTV has also concluded partnership agreements with FTA (Freight Transport Association) and RHA (Road Haulage Association).
PTV UK officially opened its new office in Birmingham in January 2014. Thanks to its central location, the international airport and one of the largest railway stations in the UK, it is easy to reach by road, air or rail from anywhere in the world. With more miles of canal than Venice, the narrowboat canal system is one of Birmingham’s tourist attractions.
