Grouping vehicles – car or trucks driving closely together – into platoons, while maintaining road safety, is called platooning. The vehicles speed up or slow down at the same time, whereas the vehicle at the front of the platoon determines the driving rhythm. This reduces the risk of traffic jams and improves fuel efficiency and road utilization. What can platooning look like? Using a simulation example in PTV Vissim, Peter Sukennik, PTV Vissim Product Management, provides us with an answer to that question.
